Medical Advisory BoardAlan Copperman, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.Consulting Medical Director to Extend FertilityReproductive Medicine Associates of New YorkDr. Alan Copperman is Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, and is co-director of Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York. An experienced and respected clinician, he has published numerous award-winning papers and textbook chapters on egg freezing, infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and pelvic surgery. New York Magazine has listed Dr. Copperman in its Best Doctors Issue every year from 2002 to 2007. Recently, Fertile Hope selected Dr. Copperman to join their medical advisory board.Dr. Copperman received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from New York Medical College. He completed residency in Ob/Gyn at Yale-New Haven Hospital, then continued his training at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York as the Martin J. Clyman Fellow in Reproductive Endocrinology. Dr. Copperman is board certified in both Ob/Gyn and reproductive endocrinology. Gerard S. Letterie, D.O., F.A.C.O.G.Northwest Center For Reproductive Sciences (NCRS)Dr. Gerard Letterie is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. He is the Medical Director of theNorthwest Center for Reproductive Sciences. He is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Washington, Seattle and member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology as an examiner. He continues his military affiliation by serving as a consultant atMadigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma WA. Dr. Letterie was recently selected as one of the areas leading infertility practitioners by the Puget Sound Consumers Guide and is listed in Guide to America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists for 2004-2005 by the Consumers Research Council of America.Kaylen Silverberg, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.Texas Fertility CenterDr. Silverberg is the Medical Director and a founding partner of Texas Fertility Center. In addition, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He is listed in Best Doctors in America and frequently lectures both nationally and internationally on infertility research he has conducted. He has served on the Time/Life Medical Editorial Board and the Board of Directors of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART).Dr. Silverberg received his undergraduate degrees in Molecular Biology and Business Administration from Vanderbilt University and his graduate degree at Baylor College of Medicine. Mark W. Surrey, MDSouthern California Reproductive Center (SCRC)Dr. Mark Surrey is the co-founder and Medical Director of the Southern California Reproductive Center, a recognized leader in the field of in vitro fertilization (IVF). He also serves as Chief of Gynecologic Surgery and Clinical Chief for the In Vitro Fertilization Center at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, California. He has served as the Immediate Past President of the largest society for IVF specialists in the western United States, and has authored numerous peer review publications on infertility. He is currently a full clinical professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and President of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society.Dr. Surrey received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctorate from George Washington University. He completed an internship and residency at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He then earned a fellowship at the University of London, conducting research in Microsurgery for Infertility and IVF. Scientific Advisory BoardKlaus E. Wiemer, Ph.DKlaus E. Wiemer, a PhD scientist and embryologist, is the scientific director of the Northwest Center for Reproductive Sciences (NCRS). Dr. Weimer developed his interests in Reproductive Physiology and assisted reproduction while growing up on a cattle ranch in Mexico. Dr. Wiemer conducts research, in addition to his clinical responsibilities, in the following areas: improving the developmental potential of human embryos through variations in human embryo culture media; exploring the relationship between embryo morphology and pregnancy rates and the effects of follicular stimulation on initial follicular dynamics and their impact on oocyte and embryo quality.He received his Masters degree in Reproductive Physiology with emphasis in Male Physiology from New Mexico State in 1985. Subsequently, he received his PhD in 1989 in Reproductive Physiology with emphasis in Embryology from Louisiana State University (LSU). David L. Hill, PhD, HCLDDavid L. Hill has been the Scientific Director of the ART Reproductive Center in Beverly Hills since its inception and was previously Director of the Center for Reproductive Medicine atCentury City Hospital for 14 years. Prior to that, he served as co-director of the John Muir Hospital In Vitro Fertilization program. Dr. Hill is a member of the American and European Societies for Reproductive Medicine, Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, and the American Association of Bioanalysts. He is one of the most respected researchers in the field of assisted reproductive technology, and has many publications, abstracts, and presentations to his name.Dr. Hill received his Baccalaureate and Masters degrees from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in 1974 and 1976, respectively. He received his Ph.D. (Pathobiology) from the University of Connecticut in 1983. He did his first postdoctoral fellowship in Physiology and Biophysics at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute of Harvard Medical School, Boston. His second postdoctoral fellowship was at the John Muir Cancer and Aging Research Institute, Walnut Creek, California. Lynn Westphal, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.Stanford University School of MedicineDr. Westphal is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the Director of the Oocyte Donation Program in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Stanford University School of Medicine. In early 1999, Dr. Westphal and Stanford University launched their groundbreaking oocyte cryopreservation program, one of the first in the world to focus on fertility preservation for cancer patients.Dr. Westphal graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Sciences and earned her M.D. degree at Stanford University. She completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Stanford University. She completed two fellowships, one in Molecular Biology at Stanford and one in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Joan (Joni) Stehlik, B.Sc.Joni Stehlik is a researcher and pioneer in egg freezing, keeping Extend Fertility at the forefront of technological advances in egg freezing and storage. She has an extensive background in cell biology, cytogenetics, and molecular biology, and has worked as an embryologist and IVF laboratory technical supervisor for the past 13 years, leading the operations of several successful human embryo laboratories. Joni has assisted in the births of four babies from cryopreserved oocytes. She has gained international recognition for her research on vitrified oocytes and is responsible for the first deliveries in the U.S. from this method.Joni graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry. She is currently continuing her education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she is pursuing a PhD in Genetics. Her primary goal and area of research is the study of aging oocytes. Jason Barritt, PhD, ELD, HCLDDr. Barritt received his B.S. in biology from Pacific Lutheran University, his M.S. in Human Genetics and Ph.D. in Human Anatomy from the Medical College of Virginia. He then completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Gamete and Embryo Research Laboratory at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of Saint Barnabas under the direction of Dr. Jacques Cohen.Dr. Barritt is currently the Scientific Director at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, where his responsibilities include directing the Andrology, Embryology and Endocrinology Laboratories. He also coordinates numerous research studies that contribute to the advancement of both fertility preservation and infertility treatment. Dr. Barritt has presented his clinical and research findings at numerous meetings around the world and has published multiple research papers in the field of reproduction, including egg freezing. Corporate Advisory BoardLindsay Nohr BeckFertile HopeLindsay is the founder and executive director of Fertile Hope, a national nonprofit organization providing reproductive information, support and hope to cancer patients whose medical treatments present the risk of infertility. Lindsay founded Fertile Hope in 2001 to address the profound reproductive needs of cancer patients and survivors—a need she discovered after her own experience with recurrent tongue cancer in her early 20s. Under her leadership, Fertile Hope has established successful partnerships with companies such as Organon, Serono, Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb, as well as non-profit organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Young Survivor Coalition, CancerCare, Planet Cancer and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.She graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a major in International Affairs and a minor in Economics. |
